Vote For William Monahan

My Bio

I am running because Tigard deserves steady, reliable leadership. Over the past two years, we have seen too much instability, too many missteps, and wasteful decisions from our local government. Since early 2025, both the mayor’s office and the city manager’s office have lacked the consistent guidance needed to keep us moving forward. As an experienced professional who believes in practical, common-sense solutions, I know we can get Tigard back on course. We need to improve our facilities, but we must do it transparently and through affordable solutions that you, the voters, can truly support. My commitment is to bring real leadership back to our city council, make our local government responsive to our community, and build a productive relationship with our new city manager. Let’s work together to find practical answers for Tigard.

My Key Issues

Improve council transparency and reduce wasteful practices

I am running because I want to help get Tigard back on course. Over the past two years, our community has felt the impact of instability and wasteful decisions. Since early 2025, we have lacked the steady leadership we deserve in both our mayor’s and city manager’s offices. As an experienced professional with a proven record of delivering practical, common-sense solutions, I am ready to bring reliable leadership to city hall. My focus is straightforward: I will work to improve council transparency and put an end to wasteful practices. Together, we can restore stability, make sensible decisions, and build a local government that is open, accountable, and truly focused on serving our community.

• Listen to, represent, address, and respect citizen concerns

For too long, our community's voice has been sidelined. Right now, when you try to speak at city council meetings, your opportunities to provide meaningful input are restricted - typically to 2 minutes or less. When citizens do get a chance to share their thoughts, they are often met with silence as the council simply moves on. Instead of direct conversations, we see consultants holding events that few can attend, turning your genuine feedback into massaged reports. This isn't real public involvement. I want to change that. I will restore a process where you are genuinely welcomed to give input, where we listen to you with respect, and where the staff and council actually provide feedback and take action. Your concerns matter, and I will make sure they are finally heard and addressed.

Improve police facilities by using practical solutions

After 44 years in Tigard, including my time serving as city manager here and in Milwaukie, I know how local government can work best for its people. Recently, our community faced a tough situation when the city council asked us to approve a $150 million public facilities bond. When it overwhelmingly failed, the present mayor stated the council was without a backup plan for our urgent police needs. That is a lack of leadership. I believe taxpayers are already stretched thin, and we must show real empathy for their financial realities. That is why I stepped up to run. My goal is to restore trust and credibility. I will listen to our residents, ask the hard questions, and work closely with our council to develop practical, cost-efficient proposals for our police facilities. We can protect our community and address our infrastructure needs without overburdening our families.
